The Berlin Wall

Anthony Bourdain:

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.”

Walking the Wall

There are very few bits left of the infamous Berlin Wall, but what remains has been turned into a sort of open-air gallery. It is considered to be the world’s largest open air gallery, and contains 105 separate painting by artists from all over the world. Though some has been damaged either by erosion, grafitti or pure vandalism, it still remains a sight to see.

DSC01293Over the past few years, extensive restorations has been made, and it is interesting to see how the various artists have given their impressions of the Wall and what it represented during the cold war.
