Estonias Rakvere - The Medieval Castle and open air Museum

When Krista took us to the Rakvere castle, she gave us an opportunity to visit the past, the mysterious middle Ages. The castle is located half a way between Tallinn and the Russian border. It takes about an hour and a half by car.
The word “VERE” in Estonian means BLOOD and there has been a lot of blood spilled in and around the castle. There has been soldiers and warriors of many different countries. russian, polish, german, swedish, lithuanian. The castle was besieged by both Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great Today soldiers, craftsmen, mercenaries and a lot of other other medieval citizens live in the castle. Some of them  met us at the gates and guided us around the castle. You can take part in the knight’s tournament or archery competition, visit the alchymist’s lab, history room, armory and feel the metal of the old swords in your hand.

The bravest guests can also seek out the fears of the middle Ages and visit the torture chamber. There is a doctors office and a brothel and of course both a gift shop and decent restaurant, though I wouldn’t recommend the beer they serve. The view from the top of the wall are spectacular and is well worth the climb to get there. All in all The Rakvere is well recommended
