Leaving Kingman, we also left the Interstate 40 and headed for the legendary Route 66.
It’s a leisurely drive, and just outside Kingman we found a touristshop giving us a glimpse of what this road used to be. Riding the Route 66 has become a popular thing to do and this is one of the major stretches of it.
The Kingman to Seligman drive via Historic Route 66 is 89 Miles, which means about 2 hours drive time.
If you add the stretch from Kingman to Topock, this is the longest remaining intact section of Route 66 (158 Miles).
The drive is through a scenic landscape and has retained much of its original charm, though it has lost its significance as a modern road. Today it is first and formost used by the Route 66 aficionados.
Having been designated “Historic Route 66” it is also known as the “Mother Road” and “America’s Main Street.” To many it represents the core of American culture.

In 1987, the State of Arizona dedicated old U.S. Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman as Historic Route 66, largely due to the efforts of the Seligman Chamber of Commerce. The dedication will assure the preservation of the longest remaining stretch of old Route 66 left in the United States.
After Seligman we just headed back to the Interstate and drove straight through Williams and climbed the wide open hills up to Tusayan.
Route 66 is a must for everyone visiting this part of the US
